When I was pregnant with my son, there is a salad bar at Case Western Reserve University that I used to visit for lunch once a week. They have this unreal salad bar full of all the fixings for the most amazing salads around. This included homemade salad dressings and homemade croutons. <you’d be hard pressed to get me to choose a favorite> But those pregnancy cravings get real at times – and I was forever craving their homemade dill ranch dressing. Since I could only get there once a week, clearly I had to nail this dressing for home use more frequently.

This was four years ago and honestly, I forgot about this dressing until a friend was looking for it on my blog…. knowing I would <should> have it up there. So, here it is!

It’s a compilation of a few dressing recipes. And, you can play with it and make it to your own liking. But, in my opinion, what makes this dressing is the fresh dill, raw pressed garlic, and the buttermilk. It is incredible! Don’t like mayo? Use more Greek yogurt. Don’t have fresh herbs? Use dried. You can do whatever you like!

This recipe is pretty much guaranteed to make a veggie lover out of anyone!

Homemade Dill Ranch Dressing

Servings 10 (2 Tbsp)

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise highly recommend Sir Kensington’s Avocado Mayo
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk use only 2 Tbsp to make it a dip
  • 2 Tbsp fresh parsley minced (or 1/2 Tbsp dried)
  • 1 tsp heaping fresh dill, minced (or 1/2 tsp dried)
  • 3 cloves garlic pressed
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions
 

  • Combine all ingredients in a mason jar.
  • Screw on the lid tightly and shake it up.
  • Store in the refrigerator for a week.

Notes

Other Thoughts:
  • If you want to make this a dip, just reduce the buttermilk to 2 Tbsp. Also, the higher the fat yogurt – the thicker it will be. So you may want 2% or full fat Greek yogurt for a dip.
  • Garlic is a shining star in this dressing. If you’re unsure about garlic, start with just 2 small cloves. If you’re really not into garlic, try using 1/2 tsp garlic powder instead.
How-to-Use:
Athletes: So many of my athletes love them some ranch dressing!!! So here’s a quick and easy homemade version full of flavor and none of the junk. Plus, if it gets you to eat more veggies, job done.
Healthy Eating: We love Bolthouse Farm’s ranch dressing for a healthier alternative. But, personally, even that doesn’t hold a candle to this flavorful homemade dressing. Don’t worry about the one week shelf life in the fridge, it has never lasted that long around here!
Kids: Make this thicker by adding less buttermilk to make it a dip for the kids’ vegetables. If the kids aren’t garlic fans, stick to 1 or 2 small garlic cloves instead of 3.
